HUNDREDS TO RALLY FOR HOUSING, JOBS AND SERVICES - AND AN END TO HOMELESSNESS

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds will speak out on the need
for housing, jobs, and services, and encourage Philadelphians to vote on
Election Day, at a rally to be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19 at
City Hall.

Mayoral candidate John Street will attend as well as a representative from
Sam Katz's campaign.

Speakers include homeless and formerly homeless individuals, Sr. Mary
Scullion of Project HOME, and Reverend Henry Wells of One Day at a Time.

The rally is sponsored by Election '99: Leadership to End Homelessness, a
coalition of more than 60 organizations, led by the Open Door Coalition and
the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition.

Election '99 will conduct voter education workshops in shelters and
residences around the city just before Election Day, and send thousands of
postcards to the mayoral candidates from citizens who support housing, jobs
and services.

Election '99 has registered over 3,000 homeless and formerly homeless
voters this election year, sponsored a mayoral candidate debate attended by
more than 800 homeless and low-income persons, and produced and distributed a
voter's guide on housing and homelessness to approximately 10,000 households.
