PROGRAM ASSISTANT--NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT COLLABORATIVE

The Neighborhood Development Support Collaborative (NDSC) seeks a Program
Assistant to assist in grant making and program management activities. NDSC
is a collaborative of local and national community development funders
established to support the organizational development needs of Community
Development Corporations (CDCs) in greater Boston. NDSC is operated by the
Boston office of the Local Initiatives Support corporation (LISC), a
national
community development intermediary, that is also one of the key funders of
the program.

NDSC seeks a Program Assistant to work with NDSC program staff as part of
the
Boston LISC office. Specifically, the Program Assistant will become a member
of the Boston LISC staff and will work with the two members of the NDSC
staff
at Boston LISC who provide organizational grant making and technical
assistance support to Boston area  CDCs. The Program Assistant will assist
NDSC staff with grant making and program monitoring activities. S/he will
help review groups for funding, write up grants and track grant and budget
expenditures. The Program Assistant will review reports received from groups
for compliance with funding requirements. S/he will prepare reports to
funders and help respond to general inquiries. The Program Assistant will
manage at least one grant making or capacity building program independently
(i.e. HOME CHDO or AmeriCorps).

Skills Needed:
--Ability to organize data in spreadsheets
--Ability to review basic operating budgets
--Good report writing skills
--Ability to manage multiple program activities at the same time
--Some familiarity with nonprofit capacity building, affordable housing
development and/or community development corporations preferred
--Some familiarity with funding proposals and an ability to review and
critique proposals preferred.
--Ability to read audited financial statements and assemble information from
these statements preferred.
--Good communication skills, including ability to be persuasive, supportive,
and encouraging to CDC staff as they prepare reports, respond to questions
as
well as to prepare written reports to funders and pess releases and the
like.
some familiarity with accounting procedures; comfortable with numbers

Specific duties:

1. Under the supervision of Program Officers, prepare recommendations to
NDSC
Steering Committee and requests for program action (grant write-ups) for
NDSC
grants

2.  Assist in review of groups that apply for grants, including drafting
requests for proposals and reviewing proposals for compliance with program
requirements (i.e. review of organizational financials, review of
submissions
for completion) and taking the lead on reviewing groups for eligibility for
some funding, such as the City of Boston HOME CHODO funding

3. Assist in grant monitoring, including tracking receipt of reports from
grantees, ensuring that reports meet program requirements, following up with
groups to complete submissions or raise questions where there are
gaps/nonperformance and authorizing disbursements on some grants—take the
lead of HOME CHDO grant making

4. Keep track of expenditures against budget by program for particular
programs, including human capital, AmeriCorps, community organizing, asset
management programs

5. Keep track of funder requirements and assist in preparation of reports to
funders, including tracking changes in CDC jobs for HCDI, tracking of
AmeriCorps achievements against objectives for AmeriCorps reports, tracking
of units produced for HOME CHODO

6. Help with marketing of CDC work, including making connections with
university career services officers, development of materials on CDC work,
help with career fairs

7. Assist staff to identify additional training needs at CDCs including
board
and Executive Director surveys and research about programs in other cities

8. Track reports from LISC New York to ensure that expenses have been
charged
to correct sources

9.  Assist staff to respond to general inquiries for NDSC information

10.  Assist in preparation of proposals for funding NDSC
