Subject: research on welfare privatization
Greetings.
My organization is looking at developing a research project that
documents how corporations are benefitting from welfare reform in the
U.S. Ideally, we'd like to establish a list of corporations that receive
government contracts to provide welfare services, or receive tax
benefits or other incentives for being workfare sites -- along with the
dollar amounts of awarded contracts.
Is someone doing this research already? Does anyone know whether there
are federal reporting requirements for such government contracts or
workfare relationships? I spoke with a person at the California Dept. of
Social Services regarding this type of information, who told me the
state didn't have it; that the counties negotiated the contracts. Is
this true in other states as well? We'd prefer not to have to do a
county by county assessment for across the country if possible!
FYI, the DataCenter is a nonprofit organization that provides research
and documentation services for progressive social justice groups.
Thanks for your help!
