Today's Toronto Star contained two extremely long articles related to
the life and death of Edmond Yu, who was murdered by the Toronto police
on February 20, 1997. While at times these stories (both of which were
written by Scott Simmie) appear to be an improvement on this paper's
usual editorial slant, they are nonetheless riddled with medical model
language and a 'hidden agenda' eventually becomes fairly clear. Nowhere
is there any real criticism of the deadly force utilized by the Toronto
cops in this (and far too many other) situations, even though the
shooting is described in grisly detail.
The second story is hyperlinked to the first and both can be accessed
from the URL above.
An inquest into the death of Edmond Yu commences on Monday, October 5.

'Lock 'em up and throw away the key, boys,
the Joneses are not like you or me,
lock 'em up tight, 'cause if they had the chance
they might show us that we're wrong and that's
the one thing we can't be........'
