We are here to specifically illustrate = the outrageous and continuing "state disaster" of homelessness and the = increasing lack of affordable housing across Rhode Island. The leaders = of Rhode Island can find millions of dollars to build a mall, and yet = cannot find funding to build permanent affordable housing for the = people. Our goal is to make the citizens of Rhode Island aware the State = has a critical shortage of affordable housing. The existing system of = emergency shelter is full and unable to meet the demand for shelter. = Many homeless individuals and families are being forced on to the = streets and into other unsafe living conditions simply due to economics. = As concerned citizens, homeless and formerly homeless, we are not able = to comprehend how any one can be homeless in a state with such vast = resources.
