The purpose of the centralized gatherings is to openly challenge the causes 
of hunger in this society, while establishing  an atmosphere of community 
and solidarity for those who gather to distribute/share the food. 
Surreptitious distribution of sack lunches would have a substantially 
weaker impact.

Why should such a natural and fundamentally vital human need (and right!) 
have to be fulfilled in such a clandestine manner?
