BY THE UNITED NATIONS!

On Thursday, October 29, 1998, members of the Kensington Welfare Rights Unio=
n
attended the official launch of the book, =93The Universal Declaration of Hu=
man
Rights: Fifty Years and Beyond=94 at the United Nations in New York City.  T=
his
new book, published by Baywood Publishing Company (ISBN: 0895031922), for an=
d
on behalf of the United Nations, contains an essay by Cheri Honkala, Executi=
ve
Director of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union.

This special UN event was co-sponsored by Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, the
Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Samoa, South Africa
and Sweden, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human
Rights and the Department of Public Information, as well as several
non-governmental organizations.

The event included statements from Koffi Annan, the Secretary-General of the
United Nations; Mary Robinson, the High Commissioner for Human Rights; and
Cheri Honkala, Executive Director of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union.
