It's time to tell Ottawa:
Canada must have a=20
national housing strategy
There is a homelessness disaster and housing crisis sweeping across =
Canada. Tens of thousands are homeless. More than one million poor =
tenants are on the brink of homelessness. Yet Canada has no national =
housing strategy! Libby Davies, MP for Vancouver-East, has introduced =
Motion M-604 in the House of Commons. It reads:
"That, in the opinion of this House, the government=20
should adopt a national housing strategy and housing supply program, in =
co-operation with the provinces, that recognizes housing as a human =
right and meets the goal of providing an additional 1% of federal =
budgetary spending to meet basic housing needs in Canada."
The motion is expected to be debated on June 21, 1999. We need your help =
to win support for a national housing strategy for Canada!
=B7 please phone, fax or e-mail your Member of Parliament. Urge them to =
support the motion and work for all-party support for the motion.=20
=B7 fax or e-mail Claudette Bradshaw, Minister with responsibility for =
homelessness. Fax: 613.992.8083. E-mail: bradsc@parl.gc.ca.
=B7 please send copies of faxes or e-mails to Libby Davies, MP. Fax: =
613.995.7412. E-mail: daviel9@parl.gc.ca.
=B7 also, please send copies of faxes or e-mails to the Toronto Disaster =
Relief Committee. Fax: 416.704.6190. E-mail: tdrc@hotbot.com.
