Volunteer with TecsChange

If you have technical skills in software, hardware, or communications
(or an interest in developing them), please join us! The unique
experience of using your technical abilities in support of social
justice is as satisfying as it is unforgettable. You can learn a new
skill (for example installing a hard disk or creating web pages) while
supporting the worldwide effort for social justice.

                 Upcoming Events & Volunteer Opportunities
                              May - June 1999

   Earn-a-Computer Tutor Orientation, Wednesday 5/19 & Monday 5/24, 6:30
   - 9:00 p.m.
If you are considering being a tutor in our next earn-a-computer
class, or are wondering what it would take to be a tutor, then you
should come to this session. We will explain the structure of the
course, cover a little bit of technical material, and demonstrate some
of the popular education techniques that we have tried to incorporate
   into the curriculum.

Volunteer Evening for Potential Tutors, Wednesday June 2, 6:30 - 9:00
   p.m.
Whether you just graduated from the earn-a-computer class, are
thinking about tutoring, or just want to learn more about computer
hardware, hands-on volunteering is the best way to sharpen your
skills. You will most likely be working on computers that will be sent
to organizations in the developing world.

   Volunteer Opportunities Every Saturday, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
We will be open every Saturday afternoon. We have a few projects for
volunteers to work on. Ride your bike over, and stay for an hour or
three. See the above paragraph for why you should volunteer.

   Our 10th Earn-a-Computer Course, Mon & Wed 6:30 - 9:00 p.m., June 7 -
   July 19.
As usual, we need tutors who can commit to one evening per week,
either Monday or Wednesday. (Of course most of us will be taking some
time off this summer. If you can't make it some of the evenings, just
let us know and we can find substitutes.) Note that there will be no
   class on July 5.

We seek donations of: PC-compatible computers (486DX or better),
memory, hard disks, modems, printers, monitors, and manuals for any of
the above. If you or organizations (or companies) you know of can help
us, please contact us. Here is a list of our most urgently needed
   computer parts.
