Hi gang,
In this and following posts, I'm going to list some upcoming events
that OCAP has planned in Toronto. Hope you can make it out to some of
them.
First, this isn't really an OCAP event, but OCAP is certainly involved
in it. it is the Homeless Memorial Service to be held this Friday, May
22/98 at Nathan Phillips Square from 12:00-2:00 pm. It is to honour the
memory of homeless people who have died on the street. Authour and
Activist, Linda McQuaig will be speaking as will be John Clarke of
OCAP. There will also be an open mike to allow attendees to have their
say. There will be free food; soup, cabbage rolls, sandwiches, coffee,
pop, and juice. Music to be provided by the Full Circle Band and the
Eagle Heart Native Drummers. There will also be something else happening
as a part of the Service, but I'm not at liberty to reveal that. You
have to come to the service to see what it is.
Second, there will be a National Day Of Action on May 29/98 called
Stop The War Against Immigrants and Refugees. There will be a rally at
11:00 am at Liberal Party HQ at 10 St. Mary St. just south of Bloor and
Yonge. There will also be actions taking place in London, Ottawa,
Montreal, Edmonton, and Vancouver. This event will be sign language
interpreted for the hearing impaired. It will also be catered by Food
Not Bombs. For more information, call Ontario Coalition Against Poverty
at (416) 925-6939.
Another campaign to follow in the next post.
Bonnie
