This will be no ordinary book tour.

Instead of a chauffeured limousine, the author will travel by Greyhound
bus. Instead of a posh hotel, he'll sleep in homeless shelters. Instead of
five-star restaurants, he'll get his meals wherever they're cheapest.

That's just the way Bobby Burns wants it.

Burns, who wrote a book about his stay 4 1/2 years ago at Tucson's
Primavera men's shelter, has two goals for his upcoming national book tour.

First, to call attention to the continuing problem of homelessness in the
United States. Second, to promote his book, ``Shelter: One Man's Journey
>From Homelessness to Hope.''

Burns' tour will begin Oct. 22 in Tucson with a book-signing at Barnes &
Noble Booksellers at the Foothills Mall.

Other stops on the tour - being arranged by his publisher, The University
of Arizona Press - include Phoenix; Los Angeles; El Paso; Dallas; Atlanta;
Raleigh, N.C.; New York City; Richmond, Va.; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.;
Chicago; and Kansas City, Mo.

Most of the tour will be sponsored by the Primavera Foundation, the local
homeless advocacy group for which Burns now sits on the board of directors.
The group is giving Burns $1,500 for his bus ticket and meals.

That leaves only one unmet need: Burns hopes to find one more sponsor to
lend or give him a laptop computer - on which he hopes to chronicle the
tour as the basis for his next book.
