Students Meet At Trinity College to Fight Hunger & Homelessness

A recent Urban Institute report documents that one in three children in the
U.S. suffer from hunger and/or food security. More than 3 million people
are without a home. In the U.S. and across the world, millions suffer
unthinkable conditions. We must take action to educate the public, to
support community programs by volunteering and raising funds, and to
advocate for fundamental solutions.

This October 28--31, the 12th Annual Conference of the National Student
Campaign Against Hunger & Homelessness will bring together 500 students and
university staff to learn more about the issues, develop leadership skills,
share ideas and adopt a plan of action to fight hunger and homelessness.
One important part of the conference is the 80 workshops in which students
share ideas and learn from such topics as to how to recruit volunteers,
establish a Habitat for Humanity project, hold a Hunger & Homelessness
Awareness Week, find a career fighting hunger and homelessness, or organize
an urban plunge.

Another highlight of the conference is the Faces of Homelessness panel in
which people who are or were homeless tell of the circumstances that left
them homeless and what made a difference for them. In addition, the
Conference includes a Hunger Banquet, regional planning associations, panel
discussions, an opportunities fair with 40 participating organizations, and
time to share ideas with active students and staff on other campuses.

By attending the conference you will help strengthen the collective effort
to end hunger and homelessness, increase your group's effectiveness, and
meet people who are passionate about making a difference.

The 12th Annual Conference, hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, CT, will
be October 28-31, 1999. Participating organizations include such groups as
Bread for the World, Oxfam America, Hillel, the National Coalition for the
Homeless, Habitat for Humanity, and COOL. For more information about the
