Sonny, you're so right that both the modern and ancient world has been
filled with "consultants" who, as you say "dared not give honest criticism
for fear they would lose their influence in the corridors of power".
Fortunately, as you say, "True prophets [consultants] said things that
people did not want to hear."
Among USA nonprofits, I too often see the "false consultants" you mention,
who fear to bear bad news to the powers that be, that we have yet to
achieve equal justice for all or truly participatory democracy. To have so
many imprisoned, so many hungry and homelsss in thw rold's richest nation,
gives witness to how far we miss the mark of a compassionate, sane society.
We make money our Icon, and many are trampled beneath the feet of that
Golden Calf. Even those who prosper lose greatly, because they so often
lose their "heart" and "soul".
In this nation, on this day, we need prophets as brave as Dr. King, willing
to witness against injustice, willing to risk privation, jail and death, so
that the we can leave our childern a better world.--Tom
