The life of a Community Based Non Profit Consultant is not always an easy
one:
----------------------------------
Luke had no sooner told us that Jesus won the appoval and admiration of
those who heard him speak in the synagogue in Nazareth than he informs us
that Jesus also enraged the same people that they ran him out of town and
they even sought to kill him (Lk. 4:21 ff). Clearly, Jesus was not one to
tell people only what they wanted to hear; he was a true prophet
[consultant].
True prophets [consultants] said things that people did not want to hear.
Moses
pronounced both blessings and curses, setting before the people life and
prosperity, death and doom. Samuel delivered an oracle deposing Saul.
Nathan rebuked David for adultery and murder, and the prophet [consultant]
Gad delivered
the message of punishment to David for taking the census. Elijah predicted
the end of Ahab's dynasty.
False prophets [consultants], on the other hand, only said what their
audience wanted to
hear, accomodating their message to the optimistic hopes and wishful
thinking of those in power. They saw no evil where there was evil and
declared
that the state of the nation was "all well" when it was not. They were the
flag-waving narrow nationalists [consultants] who were quick to brand their
[consultant] opponents
traitors and accuse them of breach of national security. False prophets
[consultants]
dared not give honest criticism for fear they would lose their influence in
the corridors of power.
