Hello again,

I apologize to everyone if this becomes a repeated message, but I
noticed that it seems that when I first sent this through that it may
not have come through, my mind is real foggy and I cannot recall for
sure. I just want to ensure that this gets out there to HPN just in
case.

This past week has been an all out extremely intense and active one
tracking S. 103; testifying on this and another bill I'm monitoring
currently at the same time (a landlord bill to hasten evictions and
enact voucher payments for people on welfare who are behind on their
rents, H. 522; I testified on this one yesterday and it is also active
next week)and doing a lot of related work such as a snail-mailing
yesterday on the S. 103 public hearing next week. Next week during the
day on wednesday, before the public hearing, the House Judiciary
Committee plans to take their last day of testimony from people who
either haven't yet spoken on the bill of from those who want additional
time to speak again. I believe that the committee is attempting to give
this bill a full airing and are taking time to explore the issues around
it. But those of us who are opposing this bill have our work cut out for
us. The odds are completely against us at this time. However, we refuse
to give up!!!!!

Next week is a another week and a new round of opportunities for us to
press on with our cause with everything we have and we are doing that.
We are going full out on this one.

-------Message re-sent-------------

Below is another alert in poster type format regarding the upcoming
Public Hearing on S. 103-the Force Drugging bill before the Vermont
Legislature. For those receiving this outside of Vermont, please share
this with anyone you know online from Vermont or who may reside just
outside Vermont's borders. For those living within Vermont, please
e-mail this to others online and also feel free to make hard copies to
post and circulate. We need to really get the word out and urge people
to attend. If you know of someone wanting to attend and can help with
transportation if it is needed, please do. We, who would be subject to
this bill if passed and who oppose this legislation are counting on your
support.

We are not giving up the battle, but we need your help!!

Public Hearing:

Where: State House; Room 10; Montpelier, Vermont
When: January 28, 1998;
7:00 P.M.

What: S. 103-the Forced Drugging bill
“it’s closer than you think!”

The Department of Mental Health is sponsoring S. 103,
which has many powerful allies. If enacted this bill would empower the
State of Vermont to force long-acting injections of powerful psychiatric
drugs on people living in the community. It would also change the legal
standard from one of “substituted judgement,” which is what a person
would have wanted if competent, to one of “best interests,” which is
standard based on the decisions of others of what they believe is best
for the person instead of what a person may have wanted for themselves
when they were competent to choose.

The House Judiciary Committee has called a Public Hearing on this bill
and the various issues it raises.

Stop the expansion of forced drugging now!
Become informed, attend the public hearing and if you choose to testify,
this is your chance. Please come, we need you there.
