Wandering Bear,
You have a good point. We need to figure out a way to provide the
homeless with internet access, although presently any US library with
adequate funds has free internet access. But the problem is most
libraries, especially metropolitan area ones, have library security who
usually have nothing better to do than to try to run the homeless
people, scattered about throughout every level of the library, out of
the facility. You mentioned free public computer access labs throughout
the nation ... well I have seen these too, for instance when I was
homeless in Gulfport, MS and San Francisco, CA, I was able to still
save, print, and download (3 essentials of computering) needed materials
through Partnership Assisting the Homeless (PATH) in Gulfport & GLIDE
Memorial Church in downtown Tenderloin district San Francisco. Although
I never paid attention to the situation then, now as a Web Master of a
homelessness site, I know that a great many homeless people out there
either don't know how to hunt down the resources it takes to rise above
their situation, or the location they are homeless in is resource dry,
or lacking in the advertising of the availability of its resources to
those who can benefit from them. Nuff Said!
Regards,
Tedrico
