Pat, I sent the BPL post to spur talk on HPN about "Internet and email
access", plus about "NIMBY responses to homeless people" (which happens,
among other places, in libraries).

Also, I thought the post was good writing, and the author (and Don as well)
ok'ed the repost. I'm not sure if it's autobiographical, humor or serious.

<soc.libraries.talk> has a recent thread on dealing with homeless folks in
libraries. Some write there that libraries are not the right place to deal
with troubled, dirty homeless folk. Others are interested in finding ways
to make librariy resources "universally accessable", including to homeless
people.

A letter to the Boston Globe recently criticized Boston Public Library a
"dumping ground for the homeless". Today, I also reposted to HPN the BPL
president's reply to the complaint.

*HPN members, what's your advice to the President of BPL on working with
homeless people in libraries?--Tom
