HUD ANNOUNCES $2.4 BILLION IN GRANTS TO FUND HUD HOUSING AND COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

HUD is pleased to announce the FY 1999 funding round for HUD's three
programs designed to help colleges and universities expand their community
building role in their local communities: the Community Outreach Partnership
Centers Program (COPC), the Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Program (HBCU), and a new program, the Hispanic-serving Institutions
Assisting Communities Program (HSIAC).

These programs and others are part of the Super Notice of Funds Availability
(SuperNOFA) issued today by HUD to notify communities and groups around the
nation of grants that are available for a broad range of programs to help
build affordable housing, boost employment, revitalize distressed public
housing, fund fair housing enforcement and provide assistance to homeless
people.

Through the SuperNOFA grant process, applicants can now go to one source -
the SuperNOFA Information Center - to get application information, copies of
program regulations and other information that will help applicants prepare
and submit their funding requests.

HUD has also prepared a guidebook for funding applicants, Connecting With
Communities, which explains the SuperNOFA process and provides information
on all programs for HUD partners at the state and local level, and in
non-profit, faith-based and other community organizations.

To request this information, the SuperNOFA Information Center may be reached
by dialing toll-free 800/HUD-8929 or 800/483-2209 TTY. Additionally,
application information is readily accessible on the Internet at
http://www.hud.gov/fundsavl.html.
