COALITION OF COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS IS CREATED IN THE WAKE OF THE WTO CONFERENCE

A Coalition of Community Activists Has Formed In Seattle To Address Local
And Global Issues Of Economic, Social and Environmental Justice

A group of people from a diverse collection of marginalized communities met
on Dec. 12th and Dec. 19th to discuss solutions to the social, economic,
and ecological challenges of the 21st century.

Approximately 150 to 200 activists attended each meeting. An organizing
committee was formed which met on Dec. 21st to discuss proposals for the
next general meeting on Jan. 8th, 2000.

On-going discussions have included the need for an office space to
coordinate activities, which may include a regular community forum, as well
as educational and cultural initiatives.

Working groups have formed to plan future projects to address the following
issues:
1) Racism
2) Envionmental Degregation
3) Agricultural and Farm Issues
4) Responsible Genetics
5) Police Brutality
6) Human Rights
7) Art Projects To Bring Attention to the Homeless Population
8) Labor Organizing
9) Abuse of Power by Local Govennment
10) A National Referendum on the WTO
11) World Wide Web Broadcasts of Cultural and Political Events
12) Guerilla Art and Theater
13) Electoral Politics
14) First Amendment Issues
15) Future Activities Surrounding MLK Day, Earth Day, etc.
16) Social Welfare and Economic Justice

This is not a complete list by any means.

This loose coalition of volunteers from environmental, labor, interfaith,
community, and other groups invites you to attend the general meeting on
Jan 9th at the Teamster Hall at Taylor and Denny in Seattle at 5pm. Come
and share your energy and good ideas.
