IT WAS SO CLOSE I COULD TASTE IT
It was so close
I could taste it
It was so close
I could taste it
It was right there - I had it in my hand
It was that soup
That cup of soup
served by Food Not Bombs
I was about to get some
from the soup pot
When out they jumped, the San Francisco Police Department
Freeze! they said
You're disturbing the peace -
Serving soup without a permit
don't touch that bread
Those bagels are under arrest
handcuff those soup pots together
So says our leader and exalted chief (Fred Lau)
take this stuff, away today
Meanwhile, just two blocks away
at City Hall -
up on the balcony -
it's Willie!
Willie Brown,
He says, I'm the mayor of this town
and so long as I reign
there will be no feeding of homeless around
The nerve of Food Not Bombs, feeding bagels
serving soup and bagels
in the early evening
and the afternoon -
Why everyone knows that bagels are a breakfast food!
and that soup
- composed of some slaughtered beast in the alleyways -
But Mr. Mayor, Food Not Bombs is a vegetarian food service group.
Enough! and away I say - lock up this soup
As well, the bread also
We cannot have this around
Not while I am mayor of this town.
It's time to move these homeless out
We need the rich folks
in San Francisco now
We don't need these poor folks
hanging around
Put up some condo lofts
Run these poor folks out
They are shiftless, lazy and idle
so says Amos Brown
I cannot tolerate this kind of thing
I am King in this town
after all
I'm Willie Brown.
Keith Savage
