are asking begging drifting

to a Black man at the corner,
another Black man
crossing the gutter
will hold his hand out to you
as he passes, but clasping
yours lightly, letting it
slide along his sleeve
because it's night
and the color of his skin
and in all this
hardly and barely and almost not even,
all three of you are shining.
