New York City "Strongman" Rudolf Giuliani sent a large force of police to
enforce a vacate order today against a 15 year old squat in the South Bronx.
The building was home to 60 men women and children and a community center. A
demonstration by the squatters at st. patricks cathedral this past weekend
had generated some sympathetic press coverage. Vacate orders citing safety
issues are a favorite tactic of the city because they are almost impossible
to challenge in court and therefore bypass due process. Activists monitoring
the assault report four arrests.
