EPA AWARDS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GRANT TO LOS ANGELES GROUP

SAN FRANCISCO, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency has selected Justiceville/Homeless, USA, a Los Angeles non-profit
group, to receive $187,000 under the agency's Sustainable Development
Challenge Grant Program. Justiceville/Homeless will use the grant to develop
an urban organic farm on an inner city site. The project will employ homeless
and inner city youth. The project's goals are to preserve declining green
space and urban farming options, foster land stewardship through erosion
control and improved water usage and create jobs. The Los Angeles project is
one of 41 proposals from across the nation chosen by EPA. The Sustainable
Development Challenge Grant program provides seed money to encourage creative
local approaches to serious environmental problems through sustainable
development strategies. The grant program funds community partnerships among
citizens, non-profit organizations, government and business. Further
information, including descriptions of the 41 new projects, is available at:
