LA BREA GATEWAY PROJECT FINALISTS TO PRESENT PLANS

The West Hollywood City Council has selected six finalists to compete for
the La Brea Gateway Project, a proposed 7 3/4-acre mixed-use development on
the city's east side.

The site at the southwest corner of La Brea Avenue and Santa Monica
Boulevard is occupied by a carwash, several warehouses and a homeless
shelter that will be moved to Hollywood, said Allyne Winderman, the city's
economic development and housing manager.

The buildings will be razed to make room for entertainment and retail
businesses that will serve about 1 million people, said Winderman.

Proposals submitted for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in
2001, include the construction of a movie theater, clothing and book
stores, restaurants and parking lots.

The six finalists are: Costco Companies, Crown Realty & Development, Oliver
McMillan Development, The Olson Company and Hopkins Real Estates Group,
Regent Properties and J.H. Snyder Co.

The city will choose a winner by September, Winderman said.
