Does anyone know about a supposed law suit under way in British Columbia
between an individual or a soup kitchen or food bank and the Overwaitea
grocery chain that has moved Overwaitea and all its affiliates (eg.
Save-on-Foods) to stop giving ANY food to places like food banks or soup
kitchens? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The whole Overwaitea/Save-on-Foods position is VERY interesting indeed.
Although, ALL the grocery store, and society of course, are customer and
profit orientated which is why they will bake fresh donuts for a private
donation to some sort of function but prescribe wholeheartedly to the
"garbage food for garbage people" policy of food donation. A classmate and
I are developing a web site on the local food situation here in Lethbridge,
Alberta for a class, the community and further research and are constantly
updating it. The URL will probably change to the Sociology section of the
universtiy server here but here is the current address:

Thank you for your help and interest and keep in touch with any issues
relating to food, poverty, and homelessness.

Yours sincerely,

Niall McKenna.
