MILLVILLE: Homeless woman found dead at funeral home

Tuesday, February 5, 2008=20

MILLVILLE - A 39-year-old homeless woman was found dead near Buck =
and Broad Streets shortly after 8 a.m. today.

Acting Chief Tom Riley said the death did not appear suspicious at =
the outset.

"We've processed the scene in case it turns out to be a crime," =
Riley said. "There were no obvious wounds."

Riley said investigators were attempting to locate next of kin.

"If there are any," he said.

Riley would not identify the woman whose body was discovered in a =
parking lot owned by Christy Funeral Home.=20
He said an autopsy probably would be performed to determine the =
exact cause of death. Riley said it was unclear if the death was drug =
related. He indicated that the woman "had a medical condition" but =
declined to say what the condition was.=20

Funeral home owner Matt Christy said a member of his staff saw the =
body and notified police when he arrived for work.

The parking lot is located on the north side of Broad Street =
across the street from the funeral home.=20

"It is used as our overflow parking lot," Christy said. Employee =
Sal Ilacqua "saw the woman as he was driving to get a newspaper. He =
drove into the lot and blew his horn and when he got no response he =
called police."=20
Christy said crime has decreased somewhat since the closing of =
Al's Bar at the northeast corner of Buck and Broad Street several years =
ago.

"But there is still a lot of drug activity in the area," he said.
