Lacey tells churches to keep homeless indoors, not in tents

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LACEY, Wash. -- The Lacey City Council told religious groups that want to
shelter the homeless to keep them indoors at churches, not outside in tents.

The ordinance that passed Thursday was criticized by church representatives
and homeless advocates as unworkable because churches don't have enough
room.

The ordinance also requires shelter residents to provide fingerprints to be
checked by the police, screening for sex offenders and people with
outstanding arrest warrants.
