A HOME offering a lifeline to homeless youngsters is desperately in need =
of more mentors to help shape its future.

RKdia, in Knighton Corner, Horndean, is home to 12 young people between =
the age of 16 and 25.
But they hope to be able to take in up to 36 young people who find =
themselves without a roof over their heads - something they can only do =
with the help of more volunteers.
The home offers emergency flats to young people with a local connection =
to Horndean, Clanfield or Rowlands Castle.
Linda Groves, managing the project to recruit more mentors, said: 'Our =
young people normally have some issues with debt management, or problems =
with their families.
'They are always homeless - or without anywhere permanent to live, they =
might be sleeping on a friend's settee.
'But normally, after about six months, we help them get back on their =
feet.
'Mentors here can really make a difference to these kids' lives.
'Just being there for them is often enough, as they often have no one =
else to turn to.'
RKdia helps youngsters=20

to address any issues or concerns they have about managing money or =
learning new skills.
Youngsters go through a 10-point support programme that prepares them =
for full independent living.
They are charged rent for their accommodation and taught how to pay =
bills and set up direct debits.
They are also taught valuable new job skills and shown how to get a CV =
together and find work.
RKdia currently has nine trained volunteers working as mentors, but they =
need to recruit a total of 25 by April next year.
Mentors typically need to give up about one or two hours a week and =
commit to the scheme for about six months.
They are given a two-and-a-half day induction programme and will usually =
have one-on-one sessions with the youngsters.
To find out more about RKdia call (023) 9259 5158 or email =
lgroves@drumhsg.co.uk. More information is also available by visiting =
