Three homeless men die in triple-digit heat

Police are investigating three deaths believed to be heat-related.

Police suspect the scorching sun claimed the lives of three homeless men in
south Phoenix yesterday.

One man was 50 years old and was found on the sidewalk near First Avenue and

Another man, who was 52 years old, was discovered by some railroad tracks
near 33rd Avenue and Buckeye.

A third man was found in a grassy area next to the car he was living out of.

Phoenix police spokesman Randy Force says it appears that two of the three
men had been drinking heavily beforehand.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in south Phoenix
reached 113 degrees yesterday.

Temperatures reached 116 degrees today at the airport. That breaks the old
record of 114 on this date.
