AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- The Department of Housing and Urban Development has
awarded Maine agencies eight and a half million dollars.

A little more than half will be distributed through the Maine State Housing
Authority -- whose total exceeds last year's by 350-thousand dollars.

Much of the remaining HUD money goes to housing agencies in Portland and
Bangor.

State officials say programs to move homeless people into transitional
housing will benefit from the federal funding.
