No protesters as Tent City 4 moves to new location

 Kirkland

Febuary 20, 2005

Residents of a roving homeless encampment moved to the parking lot of a
church across the street from Kirkland City Hall yesterday — and
protesters were nowhere to be seen.

Critics of Tent City 4 periodically have picketed the camp since it set up
on the grounds of a Bothell church last spring.

Some tent-city residents said they were surprised not to see anyone
picketing as they moved from St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church in the
Finn Hill neighborhood to the Kirkland Congregational Church/United Church
of Christ.

"Maybe the protesters are just getting sick of doing it," said John Nevers,
one of roughly 50 campers living at Tent City 4.

Church members voted overwhelmingly last Sunday to welcome the encampment
for a three-month stay.
