PRESS RELEASE

8th MEMORIAL FOR EDMOND WAI-HONG YU

Edmond Wai-Hong Yu, a homeless, psychiatric survivor was killed 8 years
ago on February 20th.

We will not let the memory of Edmond Yu die. And we must not let the
tragedy and outrage of his death be forgotten because conditions facing
other homeless survivors in the City of Toronto are getting worse.

What do homeless survivors confront in 2005?
         A homeless by-law that re-victimizes and criminalizes
homelessness
No progress on the creation of safe housing or shelter
alternatives for those who are in need
Increased requests for the funding of police responses to meet
problems that arise from social, economic and health based inequities

Please join us for a memorial to remember and to continue the struggle to
end police violence and to call for an end to homeless deaths.

Date: Friday February 18th
Time: 12 Noon
Place: Grange Park
(North of Queen Street, at the end of John Street)

Mel Starkman, Survivor Activist and Co-Chair Edmond Yu Safe House Committee
