VERO BEACH - Police were looking Saturday afternoon for two men they termed
"persons of interest" in connection with the suspicious death of a homeless
man whose body was discovered in a wooded area west of the railroad tracks
and south of Aviation Boulevard on Saturday morning.
Vero Beach Police Lt. Dan Cook said authorities still were trying to
identify the homeless man, who they believed died between Friday evening and
8 a.m. this morning. Cook said another homeless man notified police about
the death after discovering the body in a homeless camp.
Police said the two "persons of interest" also are homeless, and if people
spot them they should contact police at (772) 978-4600.
The two white men being sought are William Warren Arant III, 47, and William
Pickens, 53, Cook said.
Arant is listed as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 220 ponds.
Pickens is listed as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing between 120 and 140
Cook described the homeless man who died as being a white male in his late
30s to early 40s.
Cook declined to provide details regarding his dress or the possible manner
of his death other than to say authorities are labeling it as suspicious.
Cook said authorities are awaiting autopsy results from the Treasure Coast
Medical Examiner's Office before making a final determination of how the man
may have died.
