Call-in TODAY!! 70+ Families Cut off Special Diet

WE NEED YOU TO TAKE 10 MINUTES OUT OF YOUR DAY ---Today---.

DEMAND THAT THE CITY RESTORE SPECIAL DIET BENEFITS TO THOSE FAMILIES
WHO'VE BEEN CUT OFF! CALL DAVID MILLER AND HEAD WELFARE BUREAUCRAT:
HEATHER MACVICAR.

**** note: yesterday OCAP sent 29 more new cut-off cases into the Mayor's
office****

The City's crass reaction to the success of the Special Diet Campaign has
been to beginning cutting dozens of families off the special diet
supplement, or arbitrarily reducing their benefit, for no justifiable
reason-targeting in particular women with large families. OCAP is working
with more than 70 individuals and families in this situation. In every
case the Mayor's office and Client Services (which heads up the welfare
bureaucracy in Toronto) have been told of the situations and urged to
rectify them-but have chosen to turn a blind eye instead, and force these
families to continue to do with out.

We need your help to pressure the city to rectify all of these situations,
but below we've listed 18 cases where women have agreed to go public with
their names in hopes that added pressure will help resolve their cases.
You'll notice that in most cases, people just applied for the supplement
at OCAP clinics no earlier than May and are being cut off on the grounds
that they must have a medical practitioner fill out the City's new special
diet form or they don't qualify for the supplement. These families'
medical needs have not changed in the few months since they were assessed.
The City is capitalizing on lack of access to good Doctors, knowing most
of these families will not be able to find a medical practitioner to re-do
their special diet applications. The Mayor's Office is saying no one
should lose their supplement because the forms changed -after-they
applied, but that's exactly what's happening all over the City.

 PLEASE DEMAND:
1) RESTORE ALL BENEFITS TO ANYONE BEING CUT OFF THE SPECIAL DIET BECAUSE
OF THE CITY'S NEW FORMS, NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO RE-APPLY JUST MONTHS AFTER
THEIR ORIGINAL ASSESSMENT.

 2) STOP IGNORING APPLICATIONS OR ARBITRARILY SLASHING BENEFITS CONTRARY
EVEN TO YOUR OWN POLICIES
