Homeless man robbed; two arrested


BARNSTABLE - Two men were charged with stealing at least $1,000 from a
homeless man Tuesday night outside the NOAH Shelter.

Zachary R. Martel, 24, was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bail after
pleading innocent in Barnstable District Court to charges of unarmed robbery
and assault and battery by dangerous weapon, his foot.
The other man, a 16 year old, was charged as a juvenile.

The alleged victim, a 48-year-old man, was found in the street when police
arrived. A town employee reported seeing the suspects on the Hyannis Village
He overhead one counting to $600 and another to $400 before throwing a bag
into the trash.

The employee said the bag had the name of the victim on it.

The suspects, who were believed to be staying at the shelter, had a combined
$1,536 in their possession when arrested.
Martel is due back in court Dec. 9 for a pretrial hearing.
