Knife-wielding 'liberator of homeless' storms Osaka government hall

OSAKA -- A knife-wielding man who stormed into the Osaka Prefectural
Government Hall demanding the "liberation of homeless people" was arrested
 Thursday, police said.

Shinichi Ishikawa, 29, entered the prefectural hall in Osaka's Chuo-ku at
about 10:35 a.m. and went upstairs to the second floor.

"Liberate homeless people," he was quoted as saying when guards surrounded
 him.

He was arrested under the law regulating guns and swords. Police are
questioning Ishikawa about his exact motives.

An official who worked on the second floor said that Ishikawa didn't
particularly raise his voice, but was brandishing a knife.

"There has also been an arson attack on the hall," a visitor said. "As many
people visit here, officials should step up security."
