City employee placed on leave amid charges

LEWISTON - A Lewiston general assistance caseworker is on paid
administrative leave while the city investigates charges that he used his
office to solicit sex from a city woman.

Abdiaziz Ali was summoned Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of engaging a
prostitute and official oppression. Police said Ali allegedly pressured a
woman to have sex with him by promising her reduced rent.

Ali, 34, who lives in Auburn, also serves as a liaison for Lewiston's Somali
Lewiston Police Chief William Welch said investigators recorded
conversations between Ali and the woman who made the complaint.
