Shelter supervisor is killed in W. Phila.; colleague held

A day supervisor at a West Philadelphia homeless shelter fatally stabbed the
night supervisor Saturday after the shift change, detectives said yesterday.
The suspect, Hyland Pressley, 38, turned himself in to police later
Saturday, police said.

Pressley was charged with murder and robbery in the killing at the shelter
in the 5100 block of Hazel Avenue. He lived and worked at a rehab center in
the 4200 block of Wallace Street. The victim, Ellea Booker, 48, of the 5700
block of Baltimore Avenue, was stabbed repeatedly in the body and head.

When she was killed, Booker had just finished her first overnight shift at
the shelter, which houses 15 adults and children. Two of her sisters and an
employee of the shelter had called police there Saturday afternoon, and her
body was found. Pressley later went up to a police officer at the Gallery
mall in Center City and admitted stabbing her, police said.
