POOR DECLARE WAR ON CORPORATE MEDIA

(San Francisco) - A broad coalition of homeless people, housing activists,
and independent journalists are standing together against corporate media's
bias and propaganda-style news.

On Saturday, July 28, a group of homeless people and their supporters
marched to the offices of the San Francisco Chronicle, plastering the front
doors with copies of biased news coverage taken from the Chronicle's own
pages.

The group brought with them a list of demands as a weapon against one-sided
journalism that is written with class- and race-based prejudices.

"Both" corporate newspapers in San Francisco have been harshly criticized by
community residents, activists, and independent media. First, the Chronicle:

The SF Examiner's "Mess on Market" series has prompted a watchdog
counter-column, which is dedicated to exposing the distortions of reality
that make up the Examiner's editorial policy.

As millions around the world are mobilizing around social justice issues,
corporate media has no choice but to show their true colors. Independent
media outlets, such as www.indymedia.org, are destroying traditional notions
of "news" and "objective journalism," and exposing corporate media's
laziness, complicity and near-criminal negligence in reporting what's
happening.

At the protest, a street newspaper editor shouted a warning to the
Chroncile: "We are armed ... with pens!"
