Government officials & media often describe homeless people with negative
labels, such as "filthy, aggressive, crazy, addict, bum".

Do "negative stereotypes" encourage vigilantes to murder homeless people?
Why or why not?

[ Homeless Panhandler Shot Dead ]

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) _ Police were investigating the shooting death of a
homeless man found face-down in the snow by a passer-by early Tuesday

The Montgomery County coroner's office said Edward Cioffo, 38, whose last
known address was in Norristown, died of a gunshot wound to the torso.

Police Chief Russell Bono said there was no clear motive for the shooting,
but that Cioffo was found with one of his pockets turned inside out and two
packs of cigarettes and loose change scattered near his body.

Bono did not rule out robbery as a motive, but said Cioffo, who was known
as an aggressive panhandler in the borough, would not have been carrying
much money.
