Tent City Erected in North Philadelphia

     By Ammi Keller

At approximately 6:00PM on Thursday, July 27, members of the Kensington
Welfare Rights Union began erecting a tent city on the weed-filled lot on
the corner of Randolph and Jefferson Streets in North Philadelphia. The
group had moved from their original location at 1600 Germantown after being
asked by the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which borders the original lot and feared a
disruption of religious services.

Poor and homeless families from around the country are expected to populate
"Bushville," so named because the Republican frontrunner's home state has
the second highest number of children in the nation without health
insurance. Cheri Honkala, Director of KWRU, said their objective is to "let
people throughout the world know that poverty exists in the United States."

Bushville will stand through Monday, July 31st, and will also house
convention protectors, members of the community, and other supporters.
