Dear Doug:
That is exactly what HPN was launched by Tom Boland to be and to do.
Together we can make a real difference as we learn how to communicate,
understand and work together.
Many of have real rage issues and other justifiable responses to the things that
people,
(called *providers*) have done *to* us rather than with or for us and we need to
deal
with that while at the same time, we change the system they too are trapped in.
In a study we did in 1997, we found that *providers* are actually more
co-dependent
on those of us they call *homeless* than we are on them.
Amazing isn't it that we can and have survived without them,
but they can not survive without US?
So, how do we learn to work with *providers* for our own good?
How do we recognize the *provider* employee agenda and help them meet our needs?
Does it help if more *providers* join us and become called *homeless* too?

Subject: [HPN] question
does anyone know of any groups that there members are all formerly homeless
that are fighting to end homelessness? i am so tired of coalitions that
consist of service providers that are looking for more funding instead of
concentrating on empowering homeless people and trying to end it. i often
wonder what some service providers would do if homelessness was to end today.
think about it we have people who are running shelters and making $70000 per
year. Anyway if anyone knows of such organization or maybe is intrested in
starting one let me know!
thanks

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
