Letter to the Editor

In a few months the Strafford County Attorney, Lincoln Soldati, will be
leaving the job. Although this is an elected position the Strafford
County
Superior Court Executive Committee will be making a selection for a
person
to fill the position until an election in the fall.

We all know that people in these positions can become entrenched and be
elected time after time. For that reason we need to get a quality person
appointed by the court.

George Wattendorf is the only person who has stated publicly that he
wants
the job. The Granite State Concerned Parents and Advocates, Inc. (GSCPAs)

are opposed to the appointment of Mr. Wattendorf. He, as many will
recall,
as the Dover prosecutor wanted to put a man with cognitive disabilities
in
jail for a crime he had committed. The state of NH denied this person the
services he needed and placed him on a wait list leaving him to wonder
the streets while on list for services. Putting someone like that in jail
when they have no idea of what
they have done does not serve society. Further, a demagogue exploits the
situation, by calling the person a "sexual predator." A better public
servant would apply pressure to insure this person, and others with
cognitive disabilities were provided the resource to receive the
treatment
they need. In that way, they would never become a threat to society.

The court has set February 4th as the last day for applications, so time
is short. The process will be closed to the public but you can do two
things. One is if you know a qualified person encourage them to apply.
The
other is to provide your input to the court. Write to The Superior Court,

Attn: Chief Justice Joseph P. Nadeau, Superior Court Center, 99 N. State
Street, Suite 1, Concord, NH 03301. You can bet that George Wattendorf
will
be having people in his Dover machine singing his praises to the
court. Don't let a demagogue get in by default. Write to Judge Nadeau
today. We don't want our citizens with disabilities tossed in jail every
time they commit some infraction for someone's personal political gain.
We
need better-minded public servants.
