SEATTLE (AP) _ About 75 homeless people and their supporters were turned
away from an abandoned school building Tuesday after police rousted them
from a makeshift tent city.

The attempted takeover of the Colman School building occurred after about
100 homeless people were forced to pack up their belongings from a field
along Martin Luther King Jr. Way, where they had been camping since March
30.

The city determined the homeless encampment was illegal.

Homeless advocates established the camp to draw attention to their
complaints that the city does not provide enough shelters.

The school district said they could not stay at the Colman building.
